[March 11-13th 2005]
The Performance World Car Show held every March in Mississauga , Ontario is a longstanding tradition that one looks forward to each year. One of the main reasons that this event has endured the test of time is the fact that the organizers have managed to keep up and adapt to the ever changing modified car scene. Originally a hotrod, muscle and classic car show, the Performance World of today has flourished into a diverse gathering of vehicle customization of all genres. With a special section dedicated to only sport compacts, we had to make the trip and see what all the fuss was about.
Located in a newly expanded hall near the back of the show, the "Sport Compact Challenge" section did not disappoint. Entering the hall, one could immediately sense the presence of audio companies such as JL Audio, Kicker, Polk/ Momo and Concept all competing for the spectator's attention. Not to be missed was a full size tractor trailer demo vehicle from Treo Audio that made the trip up from the States. Performance Auto & Sound magazine was also on hand with their Canadian Cover Model Search booth that obviously drew a lot of attention. The title sponsor of the event, Concepts on Wheels, took up a large footprint by creating a "store" for attendees to purchase products on the spot. Other industry names such as Hankook Tires, Mobile Dynamics and Canadian Tire were also on hand showing off their best.

There was no shortage of quality show vehicles either. Keith Losier's SEMA award winning Saturn Ion stopped people in their tracks while two imported Nissan Skyline R32's could be found parked incognito back to back. Rob Sztuka's chameleon blue turbo Supra was seen in the Meguiar's booth as well as Greg Bodor's pristine boosted MK3 Veedub Golf lurking in the PASMAG booth. Local car club Team Evolution Concepts stepped to the plate by bringing a handful of their creations while the team at Valenca flossed their best including a Porsche 911 and their popular Audi Quattro.
By integrating the trends of today with the customs of the past, the Performance World Car Show proves that variety is always the spice of life. A good time for friends and family alike, this event is sure to continue for years to come. |
