[June 11th 2005]
For nearly 2 weeks prior to Sport Compact Nights visiting Calgary, the 2nd stop on its Canada wide tour, it had rained. The skies were grey and gloomy, and the record rainfalls never seemed to subside day after day. Car enthusiasts were down in the dumps about the start of the summer season, and left wondering, will it ever end? Then the boys from SCN rolled in.
Calgary was rocked by yet another monsoon, but this was not that of rainfall, but a bombardment of the hottest cars, epic entertainment, and the most beautiful women the Alberta car scene has ever witnessed. With visitors staring with eager anticipation, lining up all the way out the doors of the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede Roundup Center, things were shaping up to be an extremely hot night.
The day put roughly 10000 rotations on the gate turnstiles, the car enthusiast community was enveloped in an atmosphere of nearly 200 extremely well finished rides, classy and inviting booths from our vendors whom really pulled out all the stops, and yes, of course, nothing but the finest young females to help promote their cause. Stephanie Ly, BFGoodrich's sweetheart, joining us again from SCN Vancouver last month and Carolyn Savage, making her first ever appearance in Alberta, made sure all the guys (and even some girls) incapable of walking past without at least a double take. Hot cars and hot women, sounds like a very appetizing menu to us, and we work hard to deliver this.
Speaking of delivery, the car crazed citizens here in Calgary were the recipients of in-your-face awe; vehicles coming out from the garages of local tuners such as Speedtech, Autodream, Matrix Motor Sports, Contemporary Motorsports, Phatboi Customz, Audio Concepts Mobile, and Highline Auto Custom, reeked of customizations and shear horsepower never before witnessed here in 'Cow Town'. Speedtechs latest creation, an ITB'd K20A swapped EB9, and Autodreams S14 sporting a large amount of cosmetic additions and a fully built RB26 bearing an insane HKS T51R snail (which bagged the trophies for Best JDM and Best performance respectively), were two of many extremely well done local rides. This, coupled with some "out of towners" that really decided to throw their weight around, such as Joe Galante returning to SCN once again from Seattle to show off his absolutely remarkable R34 Skyline GT-R, and the Do-Luck Supra and NSX tandem, left smiles and drool almost everywhere to be seen. All of the above, suppressed by more and more new and exotic rides, coming out after a long winter of independent tuners secretly tinkering away, emerging finally at Sport Compact Nights for the first time, rounded off an extraordinary evening for everyone involved.

This was not all that SCN brought however. All night on stage, enthusiasts enjoyed some beats from local R&B / Hip Hop artists, Free prize giveaways that never seemed to stop, and oh yes, more women.
Team representations were huge this year; both by tuner shops, but online communities as well. Large, local web-based forums such as Beyond.ca, JSpeed.ca, Newveedub.com, Unleashedvelocity.com, DC5AB.com (Edmonton & Calgary Chapters) and Streetxposure.com, were out and about, flossing club threads and reuniting after a long winter. The atmosphere was pinnacle, everyone united under one common bond.the hot car show models, err.rather, the cars!!! The evening could not have gone any better, and overhearing the comments from people as they left really signed this event off as a tremendous success. With a show like this, we look forward to carrying all this momentum right into the Winnipeg Convention Centre on July 16th, where we will bring you the best in entertainment, the best in appeal, and the best in automotive customization that the sport compact lovers of Canada have ever seen. We know you'll love what we have to bring to SCN Calgary in 2006. We'll see you soon.
