[July 31st 2004]
With the BFGoodrich Sport Compact Nights Tour rolling at full steam ahead and the momentum of successful shows in Saskatoon and Edmonton behind them, Team SCP pulled into the Winnipeg Convention Centre with high expectations.

This being SCN's third stop in three weeks, a broken and battered production team soldiered through the motions of setting up the last show on the Midwestern leg of the tour. Little did they know that the city of Winnipeg would bring the cliché about "saving the best for last" to life as the venue went from full to over-capacity in a matter of minutes and stayed that way until after the trophy presentations.

The legends of Portage Ave were all in attendance as Lowlife Customs, Toysport Auto F/X and the Zucru showed up with their best four-wheeled machines (or sometimes three if you count Lowlife's airdraulic-equipped rides). Kevin Wong successfully defended his title as Best JDM and the De Guzman brother's Celica could be found holding court in the BFGoodrich booth.

If this year's event sounds a lot like last year's show, think again. While the usual suspects returned to the scene of the crime, several hot new rides came out of the woodwork like Omar Kiani's Veilside 350Z who took home Best Nissan, and Brad Mills' Infiniti G35 was the top Luxury car at the show. JG Speedsport gave spectators a glimpse at a beast-in-the-making with their candy orange CRX and Evo Garage stepped up their games from the year before by bringing some of the hottest cars at the show including several boosted Hondas and Acuras.

Advance Electronics, one of the city's oldest and most respected 12-Volt retailers proved that after all these years in business, they still know what the people of Winnipeg want by flying in none other than Miss Sport Compact Nights 2003, Kymberly Mei. Imvasian.com had Coors Lite/Maxim model Crystal Lo sitting pretty in their booth as feature model Christine Isabel held court at the Performance Auto & Sound/SCP booth while Miss BFGoodrich Chanel Ko did what she does best for SCN's title sponsor.

All in all the Winnipeg stop of the BFGoodrich Sport Compact Nights Tour proved to be a fitting end to the Midwestern portion of the tour. Stay tuned as SCN takes over the Maritimes with the return to Exhibition Park in Halifax on August 14 and wrapping up the Sport Compact Nights at the Moncton Coliseum on August 25.
