[July 16th 2005]

After a month's rest, Team SCP was back on track with the BFGoodrich Sport Compact Nights Tour Powered by Castrol. Being its third year at the Winnipeg Convention Centre, this year's edition of SCN Winnipeg had expectations higher than ever before.

With broken arms and battered livers, Team SCP continued their nationwide tour and delivered what Winnipeggers anticipated. Even with the heat wave and large amount of mosquitoes, it did not stop Winnipeg from bringing out its best of the best as local tuners were presented with more features than food at a local buffet restaurant. From the moment the doors opened until well after the trophy ceremony, the venue was filled with sport compact fans. And when all was said and done, swarms of people (not mosquitoes) were left wanting more. Sorry guys, but those of you who missed out will have to wait till next year.

In the last three years the local Winnipeg tuner scene has shown tremendous growth. Longtime local shop Toysport displayed their newest projects and a DJ stage, Speed Factor turned up with a massive trussing structure, HPA had an endless array of models, Visions Electronics' flexed ear popping rides, Vickar Mitsubishi unleashed the new Mitsubishi Eclipse, Frontier Subaru highlighted their Cobb tuned GD Impreza, Overdrive displayed a plethora of cars and finally Speedline Specialties from the USA brought out a modded Evo with a GT30 turbo along with a IS300.

Advance Electronics stepped it up a notch again as they featured this year's Nopi Bikini Pageant winner, the lovely Ms Carolyn Savage. SCN Winnipeg also marked the debut of a new local tuner shop, GAS Performance who did not come empty handed bringing with them Lily Tran from Edmonton . For the first time ever on Canadian soil was adult entertainment celebrity, Charmane Star, and BFGoodrich had Canada's newest feature import model Stephanie Ly signing posters just to name a few.

Locals came out in full force as there was no shortage of crews with some old and some new. Zucru featured the Castrol Outperformer winner Geoff Wright's 3000GT and a WRX wagon with Takata green rims. Import Central impressed many with their models and booth set up. Phaze One brought cars and bikes while Extreme Compacts, Manitoba Mazda Club, Brandon Crew and others represented well with their show stopping vehicles. Not to be outdone, Tintmasters, came up from the US with 14 solid rides and ultimately ended up winning the Best Team Award. Notable cars would include a Veilside S2000, boosted Eclipse, a Tommy Kaira front ended WRX wagon, Evo 8, Scion XB, and more.

Speedtech Racing and Autodream both made their way from Calgary through the throngs of mosquitoes to showoff their JDM inspired projects. Lorne Nguyen from Speedtech took home the coveted Best JDM award with his ITB K-Powered EK9, and Nguyen Nguyen from Autodream went home with third place Best Of Show honours by way of his Skyline powered Silvia S14. However, it was Winnipeg 's own Brent Mills with his Infinity G35 who took home top honours and in a close second was Cindy Scott and her Supercharged Mustang rounding out the top three Best Of Shows.

By the end of the night, Winnipeg had hosted one of the best and most successful SCN's to date and people were left wondering what Team SCP has in store for next year. Sport Compact Nights now leaves the Perimeter heading eastward to bring the heat wave to the maritime city of Moncton for their last and final stop on August 20th.
