For those who thought Canada's
sport compact scene started in Quebec and ended
at the Ontario border, think again. The Calgary
stop of the BFGoodrich Sport Compact Nights National
Tour brought out Alberta's hottest rides and local
tuner shops pulled out all the stops with elaborate
booth setups and beautiful models. Tour sponsor
Contemporary Motorsports used their home-court
advantage by bringing out their chameleon green
Civic and plenty of eye-candy.
Speedtech Racing Development
www.speedtechracing.com) continues to make waves
throughout the industry with their "bling
bling" approach to marketing. A first class
operation from front to back, Speedtech went so
far as to have the 5Zigen WRX demo car shipped
across the country for this one-day event. The
WRX was a perfect fit to their booth setup, which
included the fastest daily driven turbo-GSR in
Calgary and local legend Nick Chow's tangerine
Honda Prelude. This edition of Sport Compact Nights
was held in collaboration with BeatMatriX productions
and Vibe98.

Thanks to Duane Wong of BeatMatriX, the
Rocawear stage was a flurry of activity.
The TYC/Elegante model gave way to the Pioneer
DJ Demo's by the DLP Crew and BeatMatriX's
own Wayne B. Spectators were treated to
tons of giveaways as always, and entertainment
coordinator Andrew Liem concocted several
hilarious ways for those in attendance to
"earn" their prizes. A stainless
steel exhaust was awarded to the winner
of the first ever, Sport Compact Nights
Arm Wrestling Championship, brought to you
by Auto Zeal. When all was said and done,
it was clear that Calgary rolls hard in
the Canadian sport compact scene and the
West Coast is definitely not to be ignored.
Three down, two to go. Next
stop: Winnipeg. |
